This year our parent charity, Family Fund, are celebrating their 50th Anniversary. To celebrate 50 years of making a difference, the charity are challenging their supporters to take on some fifty-themed fundraising with Challenge 50. Anything 50 themed counts, whether it’s giving up something for 50 days, walking 50 miles or raising £50.

So, our director Phil Henderson has challenged himself to climb 50 Peaks in 2023. He has already climbed 4 peaks – Helvellyn, Lower Man, Whiteside Bank and Bow Fell – and by the end of the challenge he will have climbed over 40,000 metres – roughly 5 times the height of Mount Everest!

He’s aiming to raise £2500 to support the work of Family Fund.

Family Fund is the UK’s largest charity providing grants for families raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people. The charity was established in 1973, and their first grant was £26 to help a family with the cost of a hospital visit. 50 years later, the charity has have helped with over a million grants for families.

The support that Family Fund offer ranges from giving carers a well-earned rest, to leasing cars for families who have to transport infants with additional needs, and giving sensory items or white goods to families who need them. Last year, they provided over 150,000 grants or services worth £48 million to families across the UK. Now more than ever, the work that Family Fund do is vital, as demand for support has continued grow amidst the pandemic and cost of living crisis.
